Hearing Aids
According to the AMA Dictionary, a hearing aid is "a small electronic apparatus that amplifies sound and is worn in or behind the ear to compensate for impaired hearing." A hearing aid is a medical device that enables individuals with hearing loss to communicate more freely, function more easily day-to-day and achieve a whole host of other benefits, ranging from career advancement to better balance.

If you've never worn hearing aids before, we recommend you have a hearing test administered by a licensed audiologist or hearing aid dispenser. You can fax or email your test results to info@embracehearing.com, or enter the numerical results when purchasing hearing aids from Embrace Hearing. See Hearing Test page if you are looking for places to have your hearing tested.
Our hearing aids work for most individuals. If you want, you can send us your hearing test to info@embracehearing.com and one of our audio specialists will let you know if our hearing aids are right for you. We will never fit someone who is not right for Embrace Hearing.
Our hearing aids serve most levels of hearing loss, including severe. The best way to tell if our hearing aids will be right for you is to send your hearing test to info@embracehearing.com, and we’ll let you know!
Our hearing aids are mini-BTE (Behind-The-Ear). Our Stella and X-mini are both RIC (Reciever-In-Canal) hearing aids, the latest technology.
When you place your order, you will also have to send us your hearing test. We then program the hearing aids based off of the test.
Our hearing aids use an open dome fit, meaning they are a universal fit and don’t require an earmold. Some people with significant low frequency loss may require a special closed dome.
These devices have an identical impact on amplifying everyday conversation, and the choice between the two is really a question of price vs. "nice to have" features trade-off. For example, the Luna has Bluetooth capabilities, sudden noise impulse reduction (like clattering of dishes), wind block, a situation optimizer that adjust the amplification based on the hearing situation you are in, and an acclimatization feature that will "ease in" new users to the experience of wearing hearing aids. While these features may all improve the overall experience of wearing hearing aids, the performance of the X-Mini is nearly identical in most typical situations. That said, more than half of our customers do decide that the Luna's extra features merit the extra cost - it's very much an individual decision.
The situation optimizer adjusts the amplification based on the hearing situation you are in. The different programs are set for various scenarios that you will encounter, typically one universal setting, one for conversations, and one specifically for television. We will ask you a series of questions to help us decide what programs to include.
Hearing aid channels split the entire audible frequency spectrum into discrete sections which can be individually amplified. The more channels the hearing aid has, the more closely matched the hearing aid amplification can be to your loss. That being said, studies have shown that there is little auditory benefit after 7 channels. http://www.audiologyonline.com/ask-the-experts/what-optimum-number-hearing-aid-466
The normal remote allows you to change volume and settings without touching the hearing aid, making these changes easier and more convenient. The bluetooth remote does this but also allows connectivity between the Luna hearing aid and any bluetooth enabled device, such as a cell phone. It also comes with an adapter to connect your TV to your hearing aid wirelessly.
The Luna + bluetooth remote package comes with an adapter to connect your TV to your hearing aid wirelessly.
There is a telecoil inside the bluetooth remote for the Luna model
We're always happy to answer your questions via phone, e-mail or chat. There's also a comprehensive description of hearing aid features and comparison to other manufacturers page available on our site.
They come pre-programmed based off of the hearing test you send us when you place your order. They are ready to wear out of the box.
Yes, it can take anywhere from a few days to a few months to fully adjust to wearing hearing aids. The sudden improvement in sound heard, along with the better clarity, will take an initial period of adjustment.
We don't sell hardware but you can purchase that online elsewhere. We do provide our software free of charge.
Yes, you do need to have had a hearing test so we can program the hearing aids for you before we ship them.
After we receive your order and hearing test, you should expect to receive your hearing aids in 5-8 business days (if ordering in the US).
Hearing aids have many benefits, besides simply improving hearing.

A recent survey of individuals report the following results for those who do wear their hearing aids:

  • Peers and colleagues associate successful treatment of hearing loss through the use of hearing aids as a signal of  greater earning power
  • People with hearing loss are less likely to be discriminated against if they use hearing aids
  • The use of hearing aids is associated with reductions in anger, frustration, paranoia, anxiety and overall improvements in emotional stability and quality of life
  • Most people connect those who choose to wear hearing aids with greater mental ability than those who refuse to admit hearing loss
  • People who use hearing aids overall report better health than their counterparts who do not, including better balance and less falls

If you find yourself continually asking others to repeat themselves, or struggling to follow everyday conversations, you may find hearing aids can actually dramatically improve your quality of life.

Yes, the hearing aids will work fine with glasses. Many of our customers wear glasses and have no issues.
A pair of hearing aids from an audiologist, of the exact or similar make as sold here by Embrace, can cost anywhere from $3,000 to $6,000
Most insurance plans do not cover hearing aids, and a large majority of purchases are completely out of pocket. Medicare typically does not cover hearing aids, either.

A 2010 AARP study asked respondents why, if they admitted to hearing difficulties, they refused to get a hearing test diagnosis to see if they needed hearing aids. Common responses included: “The costs. The price of seeing a doctor is very costly these days.”
“I don’t have the money and I have Medicaid which does not pay for it."

High costs are the biggest reason with hearing loss choose not to wear hearing aids -- and Embrace Hearing seeks to provide an affordable, high-quality alternative to buying through traditional channels.
Embrace Hearing
Good question! We are two guys with a mission to improve the quality of life of the "other four"— if only 1 out of 5 Americans who need hearing aids actually use them, we want to reach the rest of the five
We are located in Delaware.
Yes. Please contact us for specific details based on your location.
We founded Embrace Hearing to solve a very simple problem: today's grossly inefficient hearing aid market. More than 35 million Americans suffer from hearing loss, yet hearing aid usage is vastly underused. Hearing aids are avoided for a variety of reasons, perception of social stigma or an unwillingness to admit to aging but most of all, the exorbitant costs. When customers do find hearing aids within reasonable price points, they can never be sure of the quality.

Embrace Hearing addresses this head-on by offering low-cost and high-quality hearing aids, starting at $399.

Moreover, with the proliferation of iPods, earphones, and the constant noise surrounding us, hearing loss will only increase for the younger generation and the need for hearing aids will not go away. More information is available here.

Payment and Insurance
Unfortunately, hearing aids are not covered by the majority of insurance plans, and Embrace Hearing does not accept insurance at this time. Contact your insurance provider to see if there is a covered option, but most of the time, Embrace Hearing is your low-cost choice.

Warranties and Returns
Our Base and X-Mini hearing aid devices come with a 2-year manufacturer warranty. Our Luna hearing aid comes with a 3-year manufacturer warranty.
If you don't like 'em, send 'em back. Embrace Hearing has a hassle-free, no-fee 45-day return policy. If you wish to return a device for any reason, simply let us know and we will provide you with a mailing label that you can attach to the original packaging and you'll get a full refund once we've received the package. This makes Embrace Hearing a completely risk-free purchase. If you're curious whether our affordable hearing aids can match the quality of their higher-priced counterparts, we encourage you to try them out yourself, risk-free for 45 days.

Reprogramming and Servicing
The audiogram determines the "initial fit" for custom programming. As you become adjusted to your hearing aids, you may want small adjustments. Embrace Hearing provides one free reprogramming by mail within 45 days of purchase, and offers reprogramming services for $50 thereafter.

Additionally, we are happy to provide free of charge the software to allow local audiologists or hearing aid dispensers to make programming adjustments. The hearing aids are manufactured by a well-known German hearing aid company, and most local dispensers are able to make programming adjustments, using equipment they already have on hand in conjunction with the software CD ROM we provide (they may already have the CD as well). They would charge a fee for the visit, or charge for a "service package" that covers multiple visits.
We are here to answer any questions you may have about operating and caring for your hearing aids, but in some situations you may wish to visit a local professional. While this will increase the "total cost" of purchasing hearing aids from Embrace Hearing, we are confident that you will still save money overall in a large majority of cases.
